Knoydart Kayak Hire 2 hr, 4 hr or full day sessions
There is something simply quite magical about slipping off from the shoreline in Inverie and exploring the coast as you effortlessly cut through the sparkling waters of Loch Nevis. Watch out for nosey seals and otters playing in the loch and hunting for their next meal. Take your sit on top kayak up Inverie River and enjoy the river life from a different vantage point, you may even see a salmon leaping up the river heading back to its spawning grounds, deer in the undergrowth or eagles above. Visit The Old Forge Mainland Britain’s Remotest Pub – Guinness Book of Records and our Communiity Owned Pub! The Community have worked tirelessly to fundraise through crowdfunding, raise a share issue (75% of the shares are owned by community members!) with help from the Scottish Land Fund to acquire The Old Forge, mainland Britain’s remotest pub. Our great wee local pub will now return once again to open all year round opening, offering drinks and refreshments overlooking Loch Nevis from Easter 2022. The ethos and core values of the pub embrace at its heart, a proper welcome for everyone, traditional music, local employment, sustainability, low food miles, value for money, eco products wherever possible, reduced plastics, recycling and sourcing from our fab local producers. Later this year the kitchen will re-open after renovations to offer lunches and evening meals. Self directed Stargazing We have no light pollution here on Knoydart. Stunning dark skies lit up by the most amazing show of stars. Follow the arc of the Milky Way, trace the big dipper, find the North Star and plot your way around our night sky. If you are lucky you might catch an illuminating performance of the heavenly dancers emerald and coral bursts from the Northern Lights / Aurora from our long beach on the hill line at Doune. Weather permitting, come and experience the milky way, other galaxies, nebula and star clusters just remember to bring your own telescope, binoculars or you can also observe star activity with the naked eye.
4 x 4 Tour You can arrange a private 4×4 Tour where you can learn information on the history of Knoydart, clearances, Lord Brocket and its colourful history. The tour is by 4×4 vehicle and is a great way to experience the remoter parts of the peninsula, see the ruins, old settlement at Airor, lazy beds etc and a chance to see deer and wildlife in their natural habitat. Low levels walks or climb a few Munros. Head along the shoreline before supper, beach strolls at sunrise, hill walking, hill running, deer stalking, stalking with a camera, go on a ranger guided walk, historical walks can be arranged, daytrips to the Small Isles, Isle of Skye or further afield. For excellent walks in and around the munros and some beautiful photograph opportunities and if your lucky catch the Northern Lights / Aurora on Knoydart.
Visit our resident silversmith on Knoydart. JCR Judy Ratcliffe now Bailey! has just opened a silversmith studio here on Knoydart and will design a special piece to request. She uses polished Knoydart beach sea glass, precious and semi-precious stones and deer antlers set in silver to make exquisite jewellery. Go dolphin, seal and minke whale watching or otter spotting. Charter a boat or book on a cruise to spend some time with our local sealife. There are private hires or daily sailings from Mallaig that will take you to areas of sightings of Minke, Porpoise, Dolphins, Seals, and occasional Orca. For an experienced guide on the waters contact The Western Isles ferry Service 01687 462233 for a fast rib adventure taking you to unspoilt beaches, remote spots and even some sealife spotting. The Big Dipper Rib Adventures can be booked with Jayne on here for one hours, half day or full day advantures or jump ship and take a one hour crusie up the loch on the Western Isles. Visit a film set Charter a boat to visit Camusfearna where Ring of Bright Water originated. Take a day trip on the Jacobite steam train as featured in Harry Potter. An outing to Camusdarach where the infamous Local Hero beach scenes were filmed and the secret spots of the west coast.
Boat Charters What about Kinloch Castle on Rum (formerly known as the forbidden isle) where the castle has the one of only a few last working orchestrions in the world and where once stood a conservatory with cayman and hummingbirds. Visit Arisaig for a spot of kayaking or catch a fast boat ride up to Eilean Donan Castle, or Claire MacDonalds Michelin starred restaurant in Skye.
